Spanish grammar
Sequence of tenses: past / conditional → imperfect or pluperfect subjunctive
Match the subjunctive to a past or conditional main verb (sequence of tenses).
From the scene Me habría gustado que vinieras (I'd have liked you to come)
In short
After a past or conditional main verb, the subjunctive moves back: imperfect for same time or later, pluperfect for earlier.
Your turn
Which one goes with I wanted her to be my witness?
Options: quería que fuera mi testigo · me pidió que le diera estas cartas · me habría gustado que vinieras
Show answer

How it works
When the main verb is in a past tense or the conditional (pidió, quería, esperaba, me habría gustado), the subjunctive after que moves to the past too.
