How it works
After a preposition you can use cui or il quale.
Good to know
In careful speech and writing il quale is common: it agrees with the noun it refers to, and a, di, da, in, su fuse with its article (nella quale, sul quale, del quale).

To refer back to a whole idea, use il che (which): il che ti ha insegnato a nuotare; for a reason, motivo per il quale.
