Italian grammar
Fa, da, fino a, non... più
Say how long ago something happened, and for how long.
From the scene Una settimana fa (A week ago)
In short
Past + fa means ago; present + da means for, still true. Fino a = until, non… più = not any more.
- an hour ago un'ora fa
- for two days (still true) da due giorni
- until summer fino all'estate
- not any more non... più
Your turn
Which one goes with for two days (still true)?
Options: fino all'estate · da due giorni · un'ora fa
Show answer
for two days (still true) → da due giorni
How it works
Passato prossimo + a time + fa = "ago": mi ha chiamato un'ora fa (he called me an hour ago).
Good to know
Present + da + time = "for" something still true: faccio il fabbro da due giorni. Fino a = until; non... più = not any more.
an hour ago un'ora fa
Javi
Mi ha chiamato Don Ramón un'ora fa.

Watch out
