Congiuntivi irregolari: essere, andare, stare, sapere, dare

Use irregular congiuntivo forms: sappiano, vadano, stiano, dia, ci sia.

From the scene Che sappiano, che vadano, che stiano (Know, go, be: six irregulars)

In short

Some common verbs are irregular in the congiuntivo: sia, vada, stia, sappia, dia.

Your turn

Which one goes with I hope they go straight there?

Options: voglio che stiano tranquilli · spero che vadano dritti · voglio che i miei genitori sappiano

Show answer

How it works

A handful of very common verbs don't follow the regular pattern in the congiuntivo — you just learn them.

Your turn

Pick the word that fits the line.

Speriamo di no. Voglio solo che (blank) tranquilli e felici.

Options: stanno · stare · stiano

Show answer

Good to know

Essere → sia, andare → vada, stare → stia, sapere → sappia, dare → dia (c'è → ci sia). They follow che or speriamo exactly like regular verbs do.
