Ohne + noun can replace a whole unreal wenn-clause — ohne Sie gäbe es keinen Film (= wenn es Sie nicht gäbe…), ohne diesen Film wüsste niemand… Dank + Dativ says whom you have to thank (dank Ihnen, dank euch), and ich schulde dir / Ihnen was = I owe you one.
