For something that hasn't happened yet, German simply uses the present (sobald wir in Medellín sind), and the same goes for things that always happen.

For the past, kaum is the sharper choice: kaum + verb in second place, usually with the Plusquamperfekt (kaum waren wir gelandet), then the main clause starts with its verb or with da (… sind wir losgerannt / da habe ich…).
