Gründe: da, zumal, wo … schon (mal) — Verb ans Ende

Give a reason with da, zumal and wo … schon.

From the scene Wo du schon mal da bist… (Since you're here…)

In short

Da, zumal and wo … schon give reasons and send the verb to the end.

Your turn

Which one goes with especially since I live in the building?

Options: wo du schon mal da bist · da das ans Rathaus geht · zumal ich im Haus wohne

Show answer

especially since I live in the building → zumal ich im Haus wohne

How it works

Da (since, given that) gives a reason both people already accept; unlike weil it likes to open the sentence: Da ich achtzig bin, zähle ich für zwölf.

Good to know

Zumal adds one more reason (especially since). Spoken wo … schon (mal) means "since you're here anyway / while you're at it".

Good to know

All three send the verb to the end, and when the clause comes first, the main clause starts with its verb.

Since they haven't signed, I'm going to visit them at home. At seven in the morning.
