Spanish grammar

Si + present → future

Make plans that depend on something: if…, then….

From the scene Si hace sol, iremos (If it's sunny, we'll go)

In short

For a real possibility, use si + present and the future: si hace sol, nos llevará. Never si + future.

Your turn

Which one goes with if it rains, we won't go out?

Options: si llueve, no saldremos · si hace sol, nos llevará · si salimos pronto, regresaremos

Show answer

if it rains, we won't go out → si llueve, no saldremos

How it works

For a real possibility, use si (if) + the present tense, and put the result in the future: si hace sol, nos llevará.

Your turn

Pick the word that fits the line.

Si el mar no (blank) en calma, yo no iré.

Options: esté · está · estará

Show answer

Si el mar no está en calma, yo no iré.

If the sea isn't calm, I won't go.

Good to know

In this "if" meaning, si is not followed by the future: si llueve, not si lloverá. The si part can come first or second.
