Spanish grammar

Same subject → infinitive; different subject → que + subjunctive

Choose between the infinitive and que + subjunctive.

From the scene Quiero ir… quiero que vayas (I want to go... I want you to go)

In short

Same person does both actions: use the infinitive. A different person: use que + subjunctive.

Your turn

Which one goes with I want you to go?

Options: quiero recoger / volver · quiero que vayas · quiero ir

Show answer

I want you to go → quiero que vayas

How it works

If the same person does both actions, use an infinitive: quiero ir (I want to go).

Your turn

Pick the word that fits the line.

Porque en la cena quiero que (blank) a toda mi familia. Por videollamada.

Clue: (you) say hi

Options: saludas · saludar · saludes

Show answer

Porque en la cena quiero que saludes a toda mi familia. Por videollamada.

Because at dinner I want you to say hi to my whole family. On a video call.

Good to know

If you want a DIFFERENT person to do the second action, you need que + subjunctive: quiero que vayas (I want you to go).

Good to know

Spanish never says "quiero que yo vaya" for your own action.
