Quiero que + subjunctive (regular verbs)

Tell someone what you want them to do.

From the scene Quiero que hables despacio (I want you to speak slowly)

In short

Want someone else to do it? Use quiero que + subjunctive: -ar verbs take -e, -er / -ir verbs take -a.

Your turn

Which one goes with I want you to arrive on time?

Options: quiero que hables · quiero que comas todo · quiero que llegues

Show answer

I want you to arrive on time → quiero que llegues

How it works

When you want someone else to do something, the verb after que changes.

Good to know

-ar verbs take -e / -es (hablar → hable, hables), -er / -ir verbs take -a / -as (comer → coma, comas. Vivir → viva).

Good to know

Llegar keeps its hard g sound: llegues. For your own action, just use the infinitive: quiero hablar.
