Spanish grammar

How sure is the news? me consta, tengo entendido, me ha llegado, corre el rumor

Pass on news and say how sure you are of it.

From the scene Tengo entendido que… (I understand that…)

In short

Me consta means you know it; tengo entendido, second-hand; me ha llegado and corre el rumor, weaker. Use the indicative after them.

Your turn

Which one goes with I understand that (second-hand)?

Options: según tengo entendido · tengo entendido que · me consta

Show answer

I understand that (second-hand) → tengo entendido que

How it works

Spanish marks how reliable a piece of news is. Me consta que means you know it for a fact.

Your turn

Pick the word that fits the line.

Me consta que Borja (blank). Le he mandado una invitación. Primera fila.

Options: vaya · fuera · irá

Show answer

Me consta que Borja irá. Le he mandado una invitación. Primera fila.

I know for a fact Borja will be there. I've sent him an invitation. Best seat in the house.

Good to know

Tengo entendido que and según tengo entendido mean "I understand / as far as I know": fairly sure, but second-hand.

Good to know

Me ha llegado que (word has reached me) and corre el rumor de que (there is a rumour) are weaker.

Good to know

In the affirmative they all take the indicative; no me consta que usually takes the subjunctive.
