German grammar
Präsens, Perfekt, werden — alles zusammen
Tell someone important news using the tenses you already know.
From the scene Meine Eltern kommen! (My parents are coming!)
In short
Use the present for clear plans, the Perfekt for the past, werden + infinitive for firm intentions.
Your turn
Which one goes with what did they tell you? (Perfekt)?
Options: sie haben angerufen / sie haben gekauft · was haben sie dir gesagt? · sie kommen / er landet am Samstag
Show answer
what did they tell you? (Perfekt) → was haben sie dir gesagt?
How it works
You already know three ways to talk about time. When the time is clear, German simply uses the present, even for the future (der Flug landet am Samstag, wir putzen).
Your turn
Pick the word that fits the line.
Heute Morgen (blank) mich meine Eltern angerufen.
Options: habe · hat · haben
Show answer
Heute Morgen haben mich meine Eltern angerufen.
This morning my parents called me.
Good to know
The Perfekt (haben/sein + participle) is the normal spoken past (sie haben angerufen, was haben sie dir gesagt?).
Your turn
Pick the word that fits the line.
Der Flug (blank) am Samstag.
Options: landest · landet · lande
Show answer
Der Flug landet am Samstag.
The flight lands on Saturday.
Good to know
Werden + infinitive at the end adds a firm promise or intention (wir werden alles vorbereiten). Real conversations mix all three.
they are coming / it lands on Saturday (present) sie kommen / er landet am Samstag
