German grammar

Er sagt, er kommt… (ohne dass) / er fragt, ob…

Pass on what someone is saying or asking right now.

From the scene Er sagt, er kommt später (He says he's running late)

In short

Pass on what someone says without dass, verb second. For a yes / no question, use ob, verb at the end.

Your turn

Which one goes with the same with dass (verb at the end)?

Options: er sagt, dass er später kommt · er sagt, er kommt später · er fragt, ob wir … haben

Show answer

the same with dass (verb at the end) → er sagt, dass er später kommt

How it works

When you pass on what someone is saying, you can drop dass — then the second part keeps normal word order, verb in second place.
