German grammar

Einwände in einem Satz: wo … doch, und dabei, bei all den …, großzügig, wie ich bin

Object, complain and push back with compact emotional phrases.

From the scene Wo es dir hier doch so gut geht (And you're so happy here)

In short

Object in one exclamation: wo … doch (verb last), und dabei (verb next), bei all den + plural, großzügig, wie ich bin.

Your turn

Which one goes with and it's so secure!?

Options: wo es dir hier doch so gut geht · bei all den Jahren, die du da bist · und dabei ist sie so sicher

Show answer

and it's so secure! → und dabei ist sie so sicher

How it works

German packs an objection into a short exclamation. Wo … doch, with the verb at the end, means 'when, after all…': wo es dir hier doch so gut geht!

Good to know

Und dabei, with the verb straight after it, adds 'and yet, on top of that': und dabei ist sie so sicher!

Good to know

Bei all den + plural noun means 'with all the…', and adjective + wie ich bin means 'being as … as I am'.
