French grammar
Si + présent → futur
Make plans that depend on something: if…, then….
From the scene S'il fait beau, on ira (If it's sunny, we'll go)
In short
Real possibility: si + present, with the result in the future: s'il fait beau, il nous emmènera. Never the future after si.
Your turn
Which one goes with if it rains, we won't go out?
Options: s'il pleut, on ne sortira pas · s'il fait beau, il nous emmènera · si on part tôt, on rentrera
Show answer
if it rains, we won't go out → s'il pleut, on ne sortira pas
How it works
For a real possibility, use si + the present, and put the result in the future: s'il fait beau, il nous emmènera.
Good to know
After this si, French does not use the future: s'il pleut, not s'il pleuvra. The si part can come first or second.
Good to know
Si becomes s' only before il and ils, not before elle or on.
