Correcting yourself: mejor dicho, digo, más bien, vamos, o lo que es lo mismo

Correct and refine what you have just said, live, without losing the thread.

From the scene Mejor dicho… (Or rather…)

In short

Correct yourself with mejor dicho or digo; refine with más bien or vamos; restate ironically with o lo que es lo mismo.

Your turn

Which one goes with I mean, the owner (fixing a slip)?

Options: digo, el propietario · mejor dicho, al dueño de mi edificio · vamos, generoso no es la palabra

Show answer

I mean, the owner (fixing a slip) → digo, el propietario

How it works

Mejor dicho (or rather) replaces what you have just said with something more accurate.

Good to know

Digo (I mean) fixes a slip straight away. Más bien means "rather": it swaps one word for a better one.

Good to know

Vamos can also correct or tone down (well, I mean). O lo que es lo mismo (which amounts to) restates the point, often with irony.
