Italian grammar

Lunedì, martedì, mercoledì...

Name the days of the week.

From the scene I giorni della settimana (The days of the week)

In short

Days take no capital. Il lunedì means on Mondays, lunedì means on Monday (one day); only domenica is feminine.

  • Monday / Tuesday lunedì / martedì
  • Wednesday / Thursday mercoledì / giovedì
  • Friday venerdì
  • Saturday / Sunday sabato / domenica
  • on Mondays il lunedì

Your turn

Which one goes with Wednesday / Thursday?

Options: venerdì · mercoledì / giovedì · lunedì / martedì

Show answer

Wednesday / Thursday → mercoledì / giovedì

How it works

Days of the week are not capitalized in Italian, and the week starts on lunedì (Monday).
