German grammar

Ihr-Imperativ: seht, steht auf, deckt, und „seid“ mit d, nicht „seit“

Give ihr-commands correctly and write seid (be!) and seit (since) apart.

From the scene Seid still! (Sit down, everyone!)

In short

Ihr-commands are the ihr form without ihr: seht, deckt. Be! is seid (ihr) or sei (du); seit means since.

Your turn

Which one goes with be quiet! (one person)?

Options: seht nur · sei still · seid still

Show answer

be quiet! (one person) → sei still

How it works

The ihr-command is the ihr form of the present tense without ihr: seht, steht auf, deckt den Tisch.

Good to know

For sein, the ihr-command is seid and the du-command is sei. Seit with a t is a different word that means since.

Good to know

The two sound the same, so „seit still!“ is one of the most common spelling mistakes in German.
