French grammar

Dis-moi, regarde-moi, raconte-le-moi

Give a command with a pronoun attached.

From the scene Dis-moi la vérité (Tell me the truth)

In short

Positive commands put pronouns after, and me becomes moi: dis-moi. Negative ones put them in front: ne me le dis pas.

  • tell me dis-moi
  • look at me regarde-moi
  • tell it to me (all) raconte-le-moi
  • don't tell me ne me le dis pas

Your turn

Which one goes with look at me?

Options: regarde-moi · dis-moi · raconte-le-moi

Show answer

look at me → regarde-moi

How it works

In an affirmative command the pronouns attach after the verb with hyphens, and me becomes moi.

Your turn

Où étais-tu hier soir ? (blank) tout.

Options: Raconte-me · Me raconte · Raconte-moi

Show answer

Not Ne dis-moi le pas or Dis-le-moi pas here. Negative command — the pronouns go before the verb.

Ne me le dis pas... c'est pour Nuria !
